Lee County School System

Six Simple Rules for Registering Your Child in the Lee County School System

Rule 1: The PIC is the place to start.

Lee county has two Parent Information Centers (PICs)where parents can register their children in school. The West Zone PIC is located in Cape Coral (just North of Pine Island Road at Santa Barbara Blvd). The Central PIC is located in Downtown Ft. Myers (at the corner of Jackson & 2nd St.).

Rule 2: Do Your Homework!

The more you know, the better equipped you'll be to make smart choices for your child. Get a list of schools in your assignment area. Check out the web sites for individual schools, then pay them a visit. Talk with the principal and teachers. Learn what options are available.

Rule 3: Know what you need.

Certain documents are required when registering a child in the district for the first time. Knowing what is required will help the enrollment process.

Rule 4: You can't win if you don't enter.

Parents have the opportunity to rank their school choices on their Student Assignment application. If, however, they choose not to rank schools, and not to participate fully in the process, their children will be assigned to a school by the district.

Rule 5: There aren't any bad schools.

The schools work very hard to develop child-centered programs to improve learning. Each school in the district has its own unique character, and programs that distinguish it from other schools. They share a real desire to see children excel.
